The Pink Planet

Pink Storybooks

Children are ready to touch down on The Pink Planet when they know all their SET 1 and SET 2 sounds really well. They begin to learn their SET 3 sounds.

SET 3 sounds contain some special friends that do not sit next to each other in the word such as o_e in home. We call these split digraphs and tell the children that they can’t sit next to each other because they are too chatty! This video shows you how to read the SET 3 sounds with your children:

While learning the new sounds the children review the sounds they already know. They also read words with more than one syllable and with some suffixes such as -ed and -ing.

If children are on track to achieve their end of year expectations they will begin reading Pink books in the second part of the Autumn term in Year 1.
