Year 5 & 6 Dive into Science at The LAB22!

Our Year 5 and 6 pupils have been having an incredibly inspiring time with The LAB22, a bespoke science lab based in Guildford dedicated to making science fun, engaging and accessible for primary school children. Through hands-on experiments, curiosity-driven activities and opportunities to think and work like real scientists, students have been exploring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) topics in a way that truly brings learning to life.

The LAB22’s mission is to spark curiosity and nurture young minds by encouraging scientific thinking - observing, questioning, testing and reflecting - all while having fun. Their carefully designed workshops allow children to investigate key physics concepts in a safe, exciting environment that connects classroom learning to real-world phenomena.

During our sessions so far, students have tackled topics linked to their science curriculum, exploring areas such as forces, electricity, sound, materials and energy through interactive activities and experiments. This hands-on approach helps deepen understanding, develop teamwork skills and boost confidence in scientific thinking.

To keep the excitement going, Year 5 and 6 have been set a special science project to complete over the half term holiday. This creative challenge builds on the experiments and ideas they’ve encountered at the lab and gives them a chance to explore scientific questions independently before returning for more fun and learning. We can’t wait to see all the inventive and thoughtful work they bring back!

We’re incredibly grateful to The LAB22 team for providing these free sessions, which are open to all schools and fully support our pupils’ love of science and exploration.

Keep an eye on the school website for photos and updates from our next visit to the lab - there’s so much more science to explore!
