We are part of the Weyfield team and our role involves working with you and your child(ren) to help ensure that everyone is happy, secure and successful in school.

We have experience in helping families with challenges that can sometimes impact on family life. These may include difficulties with attendance, happiness in school or helping parents with their children’s emotions or behaviour.

We can offer advice to families experiencing financial difficulties and may be able to help with funding towards school uniform, equipment or activities.

We work closely with other agencies that are available to support families. As part of this we may need to share information where there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about children are discussed with the parent or carer first, unless we have reason to believe that doing so would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

Any written records as part of our work with families are confidential, but form part of the child’s school record and will be passed on when the child moves school.

We can be found on the school playground at the beginning and end of the school day or by phoning or emailing the school office. We will endeavour to respond to messages as soon as we can, but it may not be the same working day.

ACE Tutors                                                                                                                                                                        At Weyfield Academy, we run an ACE Tutor Programme which offers bespoke support for children who are not able to fully access their learning. This could be for a number of reasons and the ACE tutors are trained to help the children understand and overcome any barrier that they may come across. The ACE Tutor Programme is used very effectively at school to ensure all children are able to fully access their learning provision, make the most of opportunties and reach their full potential.

ELSA Programme                                                                                                                                                                                            At Weyfield Academy we are also extremely privileged to have our own ELSAs (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) Claire Sullivan

The four roles of the ELSA are to:

  1. Help children learn and practice social and emotional skills

  2. Help children feel valued and listened to

  3. Advocate for the child in the school

  4. Advocate for emotional literacy in the school

This work is carried out in partnership with the child, parent/carer, school SENCO and class teacher. It benefits the pupils and makes them feel supported by having ‘special time’, being listened to and helps the pupils develop greater self-awareness. It also gives children time to talk about their difficulties and develop coping strategies. It ensures that they interact more successfully with others, feel better about themselves and manage better in school.
