Weekly update 23rd October 2020

update 23102020 1    update 23102020

Hi Everyone,

Well it’s the end of another ‘not quite normal’ half term. It has been an absolute joy to have all the children back in school since September and although there probably seems to be quite a few changes when dropping off and picking up, the children have very much enjoyed the freedom they have within their bubbles to socialise and learn. We feel that this has been crucial for the ongoing development of your child’s essential skills and maintaining good mental health. We are so pleased to be able to continue providing your children with the environment and stimulus they need to grow and learn.

Mrs Merin’s baby news

Mrs Merrin is very pleased to announce the arrival of Evie. Apparently she was a little impatient and arrived bright and bonnie at just 5lb 10oz. Both mum and baby are doing well and Evie is very much looking forward to her first Weyfield visit.

 Read, read, read

We have been reviewing and improving our reading curriculum and are very pleased with the children’s positive responses so far. Today you should receive log in details for your child’s new on line reading record. We will be using this for Years 1-6. It’s called Go Read and you can access this here:

https://go-read.co.uk/

If you have not received your child’s logon pin please contact the office and leave a message for Miss Hook.

Don’t forget to read plenty over the half term break. Research shows that statistically, children who read often have an increased working vocabulary and as such are likely to earn more money as an adult – a long term incentive granted, but a good one nether-the-less. 😊

Limited variation of bubbles for learning

In order for our children to receive the very best learning provision, we have needed to make some minor variations to our year group bubbles. This would include a small number of children across the Y1 and Y2 bubbles and also a few children across the Y3 and Y4 bubbles. These changes are being presented to our board of trustees and awaiting approval. They will not affect all of the children in these bubbles and once we assessed the educational gain against the additional risk to loss of education as a result of children needing to isolate, we felt that the benefits completely outweighed the small additional risk.

If your child is affected by this adaptation to our Risk Assessment, you will be notified at the beginning of next half term.

 Food collection – Harvest festival

As we will not be able to have our usual harvest festival celebration this year, we thought it would be appropriate to join forces with other business in the area and support our local food bank. We will be having a Mufti Day on Friday 7th November when families will be invited to donate an item of food. We will leave collection boxes by the gates at the beginning and end of the day.

We hope you all have a very nice half term week, read, get plenty of rest, read, enjoy a little down-time and read. 😊 School will reopen on Monday 2nd November.

Stay safe,

Janette McClintock
