Step Aboard the Reading Rocket

At the start of their Readig Journey children learn their SET 1 sounds.

These are all the individual letter sounds. It is important that we say these words without adding a ‘schwa’ this means adding an extra sound to the letter so instead of ‘mmm’ m becomes ‘muh’.  Watch these videos which show you how to say all the sounds and how to recognise and read the stretchy and bouncy sounds.

Some of the SET 1 sounds are digraphs (two letters that make 1 sound) we call these ‘Special Friends’.
