Reading

At Weyfield, we encourage pupils to read every day at school and at home.

Every child has:

  • a reading diary to take home with them so that parents and teachers can communicate regularly about their progress;
  • the opportunity to take part in daily Guided Reading sessions, which will be assessed at least once a week by a teacher or teaching assistant;
  • regular visits to the library;
  • access to a Reading Corner in each classroom;
  • access to a wide range of age-related reading resources.

Since September 2015 we have introduced the Accelerated Reader scheme in KS2. The scheme enables our children to read books with an appropriate level of challenge and then take motivational quizzes, which increases their engagement and enthusiasm for reading.
